Lucille Morgan Genealogy

Lucile Morgan (05/29/1904-05/25/53) married Robert Ernest Henderson (04/12/1900-07/1981). See "Hendtree" file.

Bryan Douglas Henderson (1963-) wrote this on February 2, 2018. Except what came from Lucile Morgan's death certificate (obtained from King County, Washington Department of Public Health in January 2018), it is from Bryan's memory.

Lucile Morgan had a brother Gilbert. She may have had other siblings. Gilbert married Helen and had a son Frank. They lived in Gig Harbor, at 1000 Sun Rise Beach Hallstrom Rd, according to the 1950 census. That census said he was a chicken farmer

After Lucile's death (and maybe during her illness?), her son Robert Morgan Henderson (05/15/1936-09/28/2016) stayed with Gilbert (Gil) and Helen and Frank for at least a summer; maybe several. They lived in Gig Harbor in an old house, known as El Jumpoff, overlooking the sound. The house had a motto inscribed on a beam: "Pioneers we all are bound to root hog or die on the sound>" Robert Morgan Henderson's three children, Robin, Bryan, and Laura, visited Gil and Helen at El Jumpoff many times. These visits were typically around Christmas.

Helen was known among the Henderson children for the educational Christmas gifts she gave them. These included the geography-teaching board games Pirate And Traveller and Game Of The States.

According to Lucile's death certificate, she died of Cirrhosis of the liver due to unknown cause. However, her letters to her future husband while they were courting show that she was a heavy drinker, so that was presumably the cause. She died when her only son Robert was 17, at the end of his Junior year in high school. The death certificate said she had the disease for 16 years. There is an apparent error on the certificate in that the doctor certifies that he saw Lucile alive on May 28, while the certificate says she died on May 25. It also says the certificate was received by the County and she was cremated on May 28, and there was an autopsy, so the doctor presumably was confused between the two dates. Her son recorded Lucile's date of death at some point as 1953.05.27.

According to the death certificate, she was born in Oregon, her father was Leland Morgan, and her mother's maiden name was Melisa Arnold.

In a letter to Lois Henderson in June 1987, Robert Morgan Henderson spells his mother's name "Lucille". The death certificate spells it "Lucile". Bryan has a bible that is inscribed to "Lucile Morgan" from her mother in 1917.

The death certificate (which identifies her by her married name) lists a middle initial of M for Lucile. I don't know if this is for the middle name with which she was born or if it is for her maiden name.
