These are bits of Bryan Henderson's family tree going up the Smith side. Bryan got this from his own personal knowledge and from Denise Brennan in 19.04. In 24.06, Denise said the Sturgis Archive has lots of information on the Smith line in issues of the Barnstable Patriot and The Register (mid-Cape) newspapers: https://digital.olivesoftware.com/olive/apa/sturgis Denise said Fenton Smith (1866) left Barnstable with a buddy named Charles Marchant, headed for Washington Territory on April 10, 1888, and went back only for an occasional visit. She transcribed those letters by typewriter and photocopied the package and gave a copy to her daughter Deborah Johnson (1936) among others. Robin Henderson (1962) transmitted the package to Bryan Henderson (1963) in 2020 and they are stored with Bryan's family history things. George moved from New Brunswick to South Bend in 1878. His wife Elizabeth and 4 children followed in 1879. George's Brother Henry and John Dyer accompanied George. John's son Steven and Henry's family accompanied George's family in 1879. John Dyer may be the son of Freeman Dyer, Elizabeth Stratton's first husband. (Freeman was 15 years older than Elizabeth; her second husband George Scott was 15 years younger, according to Ancestry.com). The family travelled by train from New Brunswick to San Francisco and then by ship to Astoria, then by stage coaches to the Willapa valley. George died in a logging accident. Byrnina Smith's preface says it was 1886. After that, Elizabeth sold their Willapa property and bought a farm across the river in South Bend, where she lived until 1889. She then lived "around" with her chidren, finally at the home of Fenton Smith (1866) and daughter Byrnina in South Bend. - Ida Loretta Scott (F) (~1864-1886.09.16) - Cynthia Ianthe Scott (F) (1866.05.11-1914.08.19) - Leander E Paine (M) Married 1884.08.02 in Washington State. - Byrnina Marcella Scott (F) (1868.06.11-1956) Known to family as "Nina". In 1889 and 1890, at least, Byrnina helped run a hotel, Foster House in South Bend, Washington, owned by Steven Dyer. Steven's father John Dyer came with George Scott to South Bend in 1878 and Steven came with the rest of the families in 1879. Byrnina barely survived the flu in 1889. She died in Monroe, Washington. - William Frederick Scott (M) (~1870) William is not mentioned in Byrnina Smith's (1911) description of the move of the family from New Brunswick to Willapa valley. - Frederick George Scott (M) (1876.08.21-1955.09.16) Frederick is not mentioned in Byrnina Smith's (1911) description of the move of the family from New Brunswick to Willapa valley, but letters from Byrnina Scott (1868) mention "Freddie". Frederick died in Seattle and is buried there. - Henry Scott Died at "ripe old age" in the house of Fenton Smith (1866) and niece Byrnina in South Bend Denise Krank Brennan:
