bedroom_bath_fan The exhaust fan/light I installed in the bedroom bathroom. This replaced an old noisy fan in the other corner of the bathroom. I cut the ceiling and mounted the fan, wired it to a timer switch in the wall, and connected it to the roof vent for the original fan. January 31, 2010. bedroom_bath_east The bedroom bathroom, looking South, showing the shower stall and the exhaust fan/light switch I installed. January 31, 2010. bedroom_moveout In the last three nights before I moved out, I was reduced to living in the bedroom as shown here. I also used the kitchen, and for some of the time, most of the living room and dining room were full of stuff to be loaded onto the moving van, but this is where I slept, accessed the Internet, and watched video. The Internet connection and TV connection came in through the TV cable connection here and I used the Baboon laptop computer on the desk via the wireless access point. I moved the monitor to the floor by the cable box and the Roku to watch video. The carpet and paint are brand new. bedroom_north Bedroom, facing North. The desk is the one I bought when I moved into the family room at Shorewood Ct. The lamp is a Christmas present from childhood. The left keyboard is an IBM clasic PC/AT keyboard; the right is the venerable Focus 2001. The upper corner shows the lower corner of my Linux Magazine article that Chun framed for my birthday. The Panasonic Ease-a-phone is on the desk. The paper on the wall behind the lamp is two calendars. The orange desk organizer from Laura in childhood holds pens and orange-handled scissors. Next to it is a tray of 3x5 memo sheets. The books are the French-English dictionary from Mrs Williams, my classic 1973 American Heritage dictionary from TAB books, and my pocket thesaurus Christmas present from Vance. A bottle and bowl of Gold Bond itch power is next to the books. Super Pickle is hanging from the lamp as always. The indoor/outdoor thermometer is on the wall next to the window. A KVM switch and ethernet switch are next to the clock, under the window. The green Duracraft fan is off to the right. As this was during pandemic lockdown, my IBM laptop is on the bench at the very right. My toolbox and 3 plastic tool bins are under the bench. The chair is from my the beginning of Giraffe Data Systems. The big display was for the Monkey system (Windows), while the other was mostly for the Control Linux system, but also switched to the laptop, bench, and computer rack. Monkey and Control are under the monitor risers. desk2021b This is another picture of the same thing, dated 21.06.09. I took this mainly because I forgot I already had a picture of it. This one shows more clearly the IBM laptop, which was there because I used it when working from home during the pandemic. Initially, it was 5 days a week, then after a couple of months, 2 days a week. downbath The downstairs bathroom. I installed the faucet in December 2009, which included moving the lavatory top 3/4" out from the wall to fit the drain pipe. January 30, 2010. escaperope_indoors escaperope_outdoors I made this escape rope as part of my initial maintenance task list when we moved in. This was a way out of the house from the second floor if the stairs were unusable. I screwed the eye screw into a stud and it was hidden behind the curtain. I kept the rope in the nightstand drawer. The disks above te knots are meant to handholds. I cut them with a hole saw, which may be the reason I bought my hole saw kit. I always knew I should test this, but never did. I hope it actually would have been possible to climb down the rope. finalpaint This shows the new paint in the bedroom as we repainted the entire house to put it up for sale. The moving van had gone, the Internet equipment had been returned, and my truck was packed to leave the next morning; all that was in the house was what I needed for the night. I drove to KFC to get the dinner that I ate on the floor. This was meant to recall my earliest moving memory, when we moved into the Lexington house and we arrived before the moving van, but Dad wanted to eat our first offical meal in the house (though I'm pretty sure we went from there to a hotel). That was KFC on a bare hardwood floor. livingroom_movein Living room when we moved in in 2009 - from real estate listing livingroom_moveout This is the living room just before I left the morning of October 16, 2022. Chun kept half a dozen pots of lucky bamboo plants in the kitchen, dining room, and living room in addition to one at his office at Stanford, which joined the rest when he left there. These die fairly regularly, turning yellow like one of the stalks in the picture, so I gave him about 20 more for Christmas one year. When Chun visited for my retirement, he there were so few plants left that he consolidated what remained into the pot pictured. Before that, this pot was on the kitchen counter. That transplanting somehow made them die even faster and they were probably all gone soon after this picture was taken. We watered these every Saturday. We had a small bottle of green fertilizer that I got with those Christmas plants. I could never tell whether the fertilizer helped, hurt, or had no effect. office_east East wall of office. In some years, I managed to protect a few other peaches with ad hoc chicken wire cages and at least one year I covered one whole branch with chicken wire, but I always chose one flagship peach to be protected by this cage.
