After they died, it remained in the family as a vacation home for a few years, and then Jack Kolze bought it for a vacation home. These are pictures Bruce Johnson acquired from the house and sent to Jack in February 2024. The Aloha travel trailer was their home all during construction. This was a trailer they actually used for extensive travel before that. beachHouse/carport.jpg Carport under construction. Dated January 1976. beachHouse/construction1.jpg Laura, Bryan, and Robin (ages 5, 7, and 9) helping with laying the foundation. Dated August 1971. beachHouse/construction2.jpg Kenneth, unknown, and Byrnina. This shows the gin pole Grandpa rigged to raise the main wall. Grandma always talked about how impressed she was with that -- she was the one who turned the handle on the winch to raise that wall and was amazed that she could lift such a huge thing all by herself. Dated August 1971. beachHouse/construction3.jpg Exterior, dated August 1971. The motorhome belongs to the couple that was helping. beachHouse/construction4.jpg Front, dated November 1971. The trailer is one Grandpa towed behind his station wagon to carry stuff to the construction site. Robin, Bryan, and Byrnina. beachHouse/dadHelping.jpg Robert Morgan Henderson (L) helping with rigging to raise one of the large roof timbers, dated November 1971. The other person may be Kenneth Jr. I don't know why they are working in the rain. View is toward the entrance to the bathroom/bedroom, on the main floor. beachHouse/finished.jpg The house is substantially finished, at least from the outside. As the trailer stayed another year, the house probably was not livable inside. Dated September 1972. beachHouse/grandparoof.jpg Kenneth on the roof, dated November 1971. The roof must have been brand new. The tarpaper covered area is a mysterious area that that never became anything but a raised area of the roof. We surmise he may have originally intended for it to be a widow's walk. beachHouse/stationWagon.jpg Hendersons' station wagon parked in front of the construction site. Deborah May (Johnson) Henderson getting one of our sleeping bags (mummy bags). Laura in doorway. Dated November 1971. The car was a 1970 Chevrolet Townsman, probably purchased in summer of 1970. It came from Eatonville Chevrolet. beachHouse.trailerLeaves.jpg The trailer leaves the property, indicating the house is fully habitable. The trailer went back to staying at their Silverdale house. They continued to occupy both houses, about half and half, until July 1978, when they moved to the beach house full time and disposed of the Silverdale house in which they had lived since around 1940 and raised their family. Dated November 1973. bikeCrossroads.jpg Specialized Crossroads bike - I bought this for the bike trip from San Jose to Olympia in 1999. it became my main bike a few years later when Jay's Rampar finally wore out. Several major original features are no longer on it: 38 cm tires, suspension seat, suspension handlebar. Added features: package carrier, mud guards. Background is the bike shed I built for the patio at Litchi Grove Court, and moved to Sand Simeon. Dated August 2025. bryanroom72.jpg Bryan's room at 3116 Shorewood Ln in 1972. The person in this poorly framed photo is David Thompson. Mom's mirror is on the wall (I still have this in 2021). The table is my desk - it is an end table made of black wood slats, but the board from my gas station set is on top. The paper box on the desk is a leftover from when the Jaycees made box lunches for demonstrators for something. I kept miscellaneous items in it. The mirror has my sticker collection on it. I eventually filled it up and moved on to other furniture. Under the desk is my portable record player. The bottle is a craft project from school or Cubs - a wine bottle covered in cloth. In front of the bottle is one of those green rubber boots. On top of that is a package that is labelled "BASIC CHEMISTRY" - I don't remember that. My green wastebasket (I can't remember what pictures were on it) is behind David. Behind that is the radio I got from Grandpa Henderson's house. It's a tube radio that never worked. Dad tried to get new tubes for it, but I don't think we succeeded. But I enjoyed taking it apart. I don't know what is on top of the mirror - probably some picture. Pajamas, possibly with a Christmas pattern, are on the floor. In the corner in front of David's feet is the corner of my model railroad, on a board on the floor. The button that controlled either the log dump or another device I don't remember is upside down in front of David's left toe. Hanging from the nail with the horse shoe is a cheap shamrock necklace I got somewhere, possibly the fair. My gumball machine is on top of the file cabinet. It looks like a train engine and couple of train car boxes are at the back of the desk. carwreck Pictures of my car and the other car in the January 2020 hit and run collision on Sigrid Way. chunBryanSteeringEncounter Chun and Bryan on the bridge of The Encounter, the boat (belonging to Brenda and Brad) from which we scattered Mom's ashes. 25.07.19 computers Pictures of computer hardware cookiecuttter.jpg Cookie cutters I grew up with. Emails on 22.01.05 detail the history. dadvise.jpg This is the vise we grew up with. Dad brought it home in 1966. Robin remembers it, but I don't. I just remember it always being in our lives. It was not rusted, though. It was red. When we moved to Shorewood Court, there was no shop, so the vise lived on a workbench on the deck and never got used. Exposed to the elements, it rusted over the course of a few decades. In the picture, Robin has installed it on his bench at Mom's house in Vista Village. March 2020. deptlunch-220427.jpg This is the last department lunch I attended. It was in Santa Teresa County Park, just down the road from Almaden, on Wednesday, April 27, 2022. Front to back on the left are Thanh Pham, Paul Muench, I, and a couple of recent hires I did not know. Front to back on the right are Wayne Hineman, Sangeetha Seshadri, Larry Chiu, Travis Janssen, and a recent hire I did not know. Sangeetha was my 2nd line manager and had been my first line manager for a few years. Larry was my 3rd line manager. Paul and Wayne had been in the group since I started. We were eating individual Mod Pizzas, individually ordered (but provided by the department). diningtable.jpg Dining room table from Shorewood Court and Vista Village. We bought this when the families merged because the old one was not big enough. Also Al, the soap on a rope alligator. They are on Bryan's bed, with Bryan's original quilt and the blue blanket. I still have Mousie, Elephant, and the quilt in 2021. In the years after this, I added to the menagerie, but Mousie and Elephant are the only ones I don't remember ever not having. I made Elephant a garment out of discarded shorts. I slept with these animals until at least 6th grade, well after it was cool. I even had a feeding ritual every night when I went to sleep. When the ritual became too tedious, I decided the animals would feed themselves after that, and not long after, I moved the animals under the bed in a somewhat poignant transition, saying I would still visit them occasionally. Mousie appears to have a lot of fur in this picture; he is mostly bare now. nunpicture.jpg Mom had this in her house in later years. It was not in the house when I was growing up. owlpictures.jpg These pictures of Mom's hung in our house as long as I can remember. Mom liked owls. The mantle clock is on the shelf. The Kentucky long rifle is hanging above the fireplace. Another gun is standing against the fireplace. Two Christmas stockings are on the floor. This picture was apparently taken after presents had been opened and Grandma and Grandpa had arrived; the presents under the tree are those. The 1970s rainbow sun shade is visible outside the window. In background are the black and white TV with an art class bud vase sitting on top of it and the record player, sitting on the coffee table we used as a TV stand. On the floor on either side are the record player speakers. Gifts are (recalled in 2021): dart gun, throwing darts, jigsaw puzzle (kittens), magic 8 ball, dry cell battery, Grover finger puppet, Junior chess set (from a shirttail relative - I was too old for it), telegraph clicker (from Robin), plastic stopwatch (my second stopwatch), photograhic film cartridge, 65 in 1 electronic set, model railroad layout book (bent from being in stocking), and various things I can't make out. xmas/xmasgift74.jpg Bryan's Christmas gifts 1974. Picture is taken on living room floor - hearth and wood basket are visible. Gifts I can make out in 2021: Rain suit, steam engine, orange, silicone sealer, toothbrush, chocolate sampler, stamps, D batteries, safe, flash cubes, hatchet (which I still have), slide rule, compass, gum, bugle, plastic car model. I cannot make out the semicircular thing in the front or the thing under the compass. The black thing is the slide rule case; the white thing under it the instructions. This is only a partial selection; I presumably had more presents, especially since some of this is from the sock. The safe was something I asked for after we got one like it for a friend's birthday party. xmas/xmasreh.jpg Grandpa Henderson, Grandma Beryl, Dad, Mom, Robin, Laura Christmas 1971
